The RSCM is an educational charity, whose mission is to ‘promote the study, practice and improvement of music in Christian worship.’
We are supporting churches and church communities of all kinds, by ensuring that they have the support resources to sustain them through this challenging period of dislocation and disconnection.
The RSCM is keen to support organists, at all levels from beginner to professional. In particular, our focus is on the effective use of the organ in leading and enhancing music in worship.
Aside from running training courses (for our back catalogue of webinars, click here to purchase and download), we are pleased to offer a number of recent publications, part of our extensive webshop catalogue. Until the end of the conference, the discount code 974JHMC2C3 will enable delegates to enjoy a 10% discount on all purchases.
RSCM is the exclusive publisher in the UK of the organ works of Denis Bédard. His music is approachable yet inventive, and includes pieces suitable for recitals and for service use. Some of them are of moderate technical challenge; others are virtuoso showpieces including the closing toccata of his most recent composition, Variations sur le choral ‘Nun Komm, Der Heiden Heiland’, available to hear and view here.
David Halls’ Passacaglia and Fugue was the recent runner up in the RCO’s composition competition. He has also written three suites, published by RSCM: a Hymn Tune Suite, Christmas Suite, and the new Salisbury Suite; and to complement this, Piers Maxim’s Malvern Suite provides more fresh material.
John Rutter’s ever-popular Gaelic Blessing is now available in a useful new arrangement for Organ Solo by the composer – click here to listen.
The Complete works for organ by Herbert Sumsion edited by Daniel Cook, provides a real variety of pieces, some previously unpublished, including preludes on Christmas Carols and Ceremonial March.
For those wishing to work on specific techniques, Rosemary Field’s new collection of Organ Études provides an excellent resource. Click on the video below for an introduction; they form part of the Complete Church Organist series, intended to offer a comprehensive learning guide for all those who play for services. Level 3 of this series is currently in preparation.
